Five things I am grateful for today

1. Last Friday I received a really good evaluation at work. My boss, Dee really focused on how I relate emotionally to patients and their families. It was so neat to have my true strengths acknowledged in an evaluation, that has never happened for me before in nursing.
2. I had a great weekend.
3. I found new flowers to make barrettes with, pics soon.
4. Eric's enthusiasm and support about Spellmonster Creations (I am feeling particularly grateful for Eric today.)
5. Today has been a really good day, and soon Eric is stopping by for dinner.

Five things I am grateful for today

1. Air conditioning. The high today was 108 degrees.
2. A good yoga class
3. Time this morning to work on prayer flags for the Flagstaff Yoga Festival
4. When I walked into the Green Valley office hungry this afternoon they fed me awesome food!
5. Little RR and I walked for about 30 minutes after sunset despite the 104 degree heat. We saw a fellow dog walker who was happy to see Roofrauff out and about after being ill for so long.

Five (x2) things I love about summer

Today is Summer Solstice, a bittersweet day for sure because from here on the days only get shorter. I love the long days of summer and how the evenings go on and on. In the Pacific Northwest it stays light until nearly 10pm. I think Solstice was more tinged with sadness when I lived in Oregon because I never wanted the summer to end. Here in Tucson, I feel a little differently--summer is a great season but not our best. In fact I get really excited when summer turns to autumn here. But that being said there is something really special about long days, maybe because there is so much possibility. Maybe because I feel more energetic when it's light out. I don't know, but I do love the longest days of summer.

I was thinking on my evening walk about the things I love about summer in my life in Tucson and started to make a little list (go figure, right?) Then when I got home my next door neighbors invited me over for a spontaneous barbecue with another one of their friends. So that has to be #1 on the list:

1. Spontaneous barbecue thanks to the laid back summer attitude of having less of a full schedule. I tend to want to be more of a hermit in the summer so generally I don't have very many plans, that means that when something awesome comes up, I am probably free.

2. Swimming

3. Summer's bounty: nectarines, peaches, watermelon, plums, berries, tomatoes, summer squash, eggplant, okra, and on and on. Summer is the best season to eat fresh healthy food.

4. Fresh roasted Hatch green chiles, oh God yes. These babies deserve their own spot on the list.

5. Time to do indoor things. I think I mentioned this the other day, I really enjoy having a few months to do crafts, read books and stay in and be quiet. It feels good to my spirit.

6.Monsoons! In a couple of weeks our summer storms will start! I am giddy at the thought of sitting on the porch at night watching the lightning over the mountains. I love the steady heavy rains. Ooo, I can't wait!

7. Sun tea

8. Summer vacations out of the blistering heat. Destinations MUST have trees and water to be considered.

9. Farmer's markets

10. Always being warm enough. Yeah, we are too hot a lot of the time. But generally I run pretty cold, and summer in Tucson means that I am hardly ever cold unless exposed to too much air conditioning. There is something about being warm enough that is so relaxing.

Five things I am grateful for today

1. A good day at work, admitted one very nice patient. It was one of those times where we deeply connect. Mmm, I love that.

2. I got a flat tire...and realized it before it was really flat...a couple of blocks from Discount Tire. WOW, I am so grateful for that. It was 103 degrees out and I was in my work clothes, not a good combination for changing a tire. (p.s. Thanks to Wendy for teaching me how to change one all those years ago!)

3. Half price crunchy spicy tuna roll day at Shogun Sushi with my friend/coworker Johanna. YUM!

4. Last night I went to bed with awful neck pain--Eric rubbed it for me, got me ibuprofen and set up his TENS machine on it for a few minutes. This morning I woke up and it didn't hurt nearly as bad.

5. About to walk my Pickles down to the park and back. So nice to be walking him again. I have missed it more than I can describe.
Yesterday he was so excited to go for a walk that he scampered for the first 1/2 block or so, just like he used to. So sweet.

Five things I am grateful for today

1. E got the job that he wanted! A couple of weeks ago he applied for a transfer to a different position, still with the juvenile courts. I am glad for him because he thinks he will enjoy the work (though he'll also miss his current job, he really does love some aspects of it). This job will take place during the day! I am excited to have him around on a schedule more similar to mine!

2. Speaking of E, he swung by the house for dinner. I made butternut squash ravioli with sauteed spinach, shallots, ghee, parmesan cheese and roasted pecans. He had a grilled cheese sammich with muenster and cheddar and an apple.

3. My work went well today. I feel appreciated by my patients and my coworkers. Have I mentioned that I really love this job? Cuz I do. A lot.

4. Roofrauff and I walked all the way to the park, the farthest we've gone in a while! Over a mile round trip! Not bad for a healing doggy!

5. I am sore from yoga, which reminds me that I practiced yesterday. It was a really strong and good practice.

Five things I am grateful for today

1. Favorite yoga class
2. Mead and I went to get frozen yogurt and saw three mainstream looking boys carrying "Free Hugs" signs. I get so excited when I see that! Have you ever seen this video? I watch it when I am needing more hope and it makes me feel better. I don't think I have ever watched it without tearing up. I am making a sign for my booth at the Flagstaff Yoga Festival that says "Optional Free Hug with Purchase, or without".
3. Slept in until 10am today!
4. I hadn't seen Mead in a couple of weeks so it was great to catch up.
5. The sensitivity of my friends/family who called to check on me today. It's my second father's day without my dad. I am grateful that my friends and family are so considerate and nurturing.

Five things I am grateful for today

1. Early detection of cancer (wishing an old friend well, while we're at it)
2. The courage to go on (Regina, I am so proud of you for trying to teach at Art Fest! Way to follow your heart! And I am so proud of you for dusting yourself off and handling this lil set back with grace. So much goodness in your future, I am excited for you, even now.)
3. For 31 years of having a wonderful father--thank you Daddy, for everything. I miss you EVERY darn day.
4. For my mom, also for everything
5. For the way a heart can fill with love even when it's broken

Five things I am grateful for today

1. Frozen pizza, salad and fruit (grapes, strawberries and pineapple) for dinner.
2. My safety--sending out kind thoughts to those affected by the fires in Southern AZ
3. Roofrauff seems like his old happy self today. (False alarm on the pee situation being over, by the way.)
4. Clean floors
5. I am about to go to sleep. Mmmmm, sleeeeeep. Night night.

Five things I am grateful for today

1. My excitement about the Flagstaff Yoga Festival
2. A lovely day off doing crafts and relaxing
3. Macadamia crusted chicken at Bamboo Club (date night!)
4. Air conditioning
5. Eric offered to help me with the non-art parts of getting ready for the festival. He researched tent canopies and found me the best one. He cut and folded paper for my prayer flags. And here he is painting frames. Check out his vogue cuteness!

We've been sitting in my craft room for hours! I am so grateful and so darn lucky.

Garden Updates

Some kind of funky heirlooms, I can't reach the tag to see what they are!

Romas

Yellow squash

Eggplant

Cucumbers

Here we go!

Spellmonster Creations will be a vendor at Flagstaff Yoga Festival August 5th-7th, 2011! I couldn't be more excited! Here is some recent work...though most of it not yet framed.

Because of the light you can't really see the metallic purple embossed flowers on the left side of the frame too well. But rest assured, they are pretty sweet.

Five things I am grateful for today

1. My job
2. Roofrauff went for a 10 block walk tonight, his longest walk in a while!
3. An awesome yoga class--challenging yet safe. I SO appreciate that.
4. For dinner I needed some comfort food: brown rice noodles, ghee, parmesan cheese, with leftover tomatoes baked with cheesy-breadcrumby-garlicky goodness on top.
5. This morning's smoothie also ruled: pear, 4 peaches, spinach, milk and ice. Oh I do love my Vitamix.

Public opinion survey: 2012 will be the twenty year anniversary of the beginning of my yoga practice. Any ideas on how to celebrate/recognize that milestone? Possible rewards for your contributions...

Five things I am grateful for today

1. Usually in these posts I am grateful for things as I experience them. Today however I am reminded to be grateful by the lack of something I usually appreciate: downtime. I accidentally bit off more than I could chew work wise this weekend and woooeee, I am worn out! I worked Friday morning until late Friday night, 14.5 hours on Saturday and about half the day today. This would be less of a big deal if it wasn't sandwiched between two full work weeks! This weekend made me grateful for the way I usually schedule my life, I think most of the time I take pretty good care of myself, balancing work and play, exercise and creativity, while still leaving a little bit of time to just hang around.

2. I am hopeful that Roofrauff is becoming an indoor doggy again. After a few days of dripping way less pee I have washed him and reintroduced him to indoor life. Currently he is sleeping on the couch next to me. He looks pretty glad to be back.

3. My favorite yoga class was today. I love yoga. Apart from making me feel healthy and strong, I love the quality of peace of mind that comes from slowing down with great focus.

4. Yesterday my mom played her harp at a winery for an event that they put on. This was her first gig that she has done since my dad died. I am so glad for her.

5. The patients I had this weekend were all appreciative of the care they received. That always feels good.

Five things I am grateful for today

1. Spent the day with Eric! It was a wonderful day.
2. He just washed a ton of red grapes and cut up a watermelon for us. (Thanks Love!)
3. Swimming on a hot day
4. I am grateful to be with someone who is willing to communicate and has such a kind heart.
5. Tomorrow is Friday!

p.s. I am obsessed with crafts...in case anyone was wondering.

Five things I am grateful for today

1. A lot of time crafting! Summer in the Sonoran Desert is the perfect time to get crafty. Most of us don't really plan too many activities outside so it's easier to focus on fun, indoor projects. It's also a nice time of year to read books. Less moving=less sweating. So today I started a bunch of new collages with my wonderful handmade paper. Oh how glorious!
So here are my five things related to crafts: beautiful paper, stamps--especially my new cowboy boot stamp, tiny adhesive pearls, glue sticks and embossing powder, oh and ribbon. Mmm, I am so grateful for how happy crafts make me. Pictures coming soon, I promise.

2. TJ's frozen waffles with blueberries and raspberries for breakfast

3. A good visit with my home health patient

4. Sunset walk, and then Roofrauff and I went for a little walk after I got back from the sunset walk.

5. Eric's weekend starts tonight! That means we actually get to see each other. (Well, in theory we will...I am working tomorrow and possibly Thursday... at least we'll see each other at night.

Five things I am grateful for today

1. Dinner with my friend/coworker Karen to wish her off for a good summer in Idaho. (Man, it would SO rock to be a snowbird!)

2. Wendy sent me the sweetest card and neat metallic leaves today. The card has this sweet imaginary creature on it that just looks so content and peaceful. Adorable. The leaves are super neat too, and she made them! Thank you!

3. Sunset walk

4. A quiet evening of writing

5. A couple of months ago at work I was teaching Karen (in her mid 60's) the few silly text abbreviations that I know. She just wrote me an email thanking me for dinner and her going away presents and signed it, "BFF, Karen". How cute is that?!

Off to do my ICAD and hit the hay. Night night.

Five things I am grateful for today

Macaroni Grill leftovers (bowtie pasta, alfredo sauce, broccoli, mushrooms and sun dried tomatoes) over a bed of steamed spinach. YUM!

Birthday lunch for my friend Rene at China Thai. Also yum. So great to see her.

Good home health visit

Going for a walk once it cools down below 95 degrees.

Nothing to do tonight but rest, all I want is a quiet night to myself.

5 + 3 things I am grateful for today

1. Today rocked.
2. It's my mom's birthday! I am so grateful that she was born and is alive and well. Love you, Mama.
3. Spa day with my friend Stephanie, spoiled ROTTEN.
4. Tonight I went out to dinner and then did crafts with another friend, Johanna (also from work). We went to Macaroni Grill, YUM!
5. Drawing
6. Picked 7 little tomatoes this morning
7. Roofrauff's blood levels looked good so we lowered his prednisone level again. The lower it gets the healthier he can be. (also grateful that E took RR to the vet so I could go play spa, thanks Love!)
8. The eggplants are growing. The basil is kinda out of control. The garden is beautiful.

Five things I am grateful for today

1. A really wonderful day, from beginning to end

2. Sure has been nice to have my dear Eric home for the last four days! (Even though I had to work 3/4 of them I loved having him around every night and for our wonderful date today.)

3. Yesterday was Roofrauff and my four year anniversary together. He ate some liver, went for a little walk and got snuggled a lot. Four years with my little Pickle dog! We've been through thick and thin. I am so grateful for what a good friend he is to me, how sensitive and loving, how funny and cute! I am grateful that he is still alive after such a rough few months, I really hope he continues to heal and feel better. Here's to four more years, or more!

4. My friend Cynthia introduced me to this fun blog and we are both doing the ICAD (Index Card A Day) Challenge. I am not seeing it as a challenge because if I did I think I would probably blow it off. Challenges work better for other people, right now I see them as pressure. Instead I am treating it as an invitation. ICAD is my invitation to make a tiny drawing as often as I feel like it. It has been so fun to make these little drawings. It is so low pressure to create anything beautiful because it's on an index card that it's easy to just relax and draw. Also in case the world needs a reminder, I LOVE INDEX CARDS! I use them all the time for lists, love notes, quotes, and little reminders. Thank you Cynthia for sharing this blog with me! And thank you, Tammy for sharing this great idea with the world! It's supposed to go on until the end of August, I think. All I am sure of is that so far it has gone on three out of the four nights since I heard about it. And ending the day with a happy little drawing has eased me towards sleep all three times.

5. Blueberries and raspberries

Good night. <3
