5. More than a few moments of an open heart. Not surgically open.

I just saw this great post on Good Life Zen. Thought it was a good one to share. It's called "What are you grateful for? 12 questions."

Another thing I am enjoying the thought of is from Zen Habits. The hundred thing challenge. Go check it out!

Lotsa Spellmonster Love To YOU!

Five things I am grateful for today

1. Twelve hours of sleep
2. Increased flexibility thanks to my yoga practice
3. Peanut butter toast
4. Our furnace
5. My sweet little garden seems to be doing well.

I've noticed sometimes when I practice yoga that I space out and go through all of my poses pretty quickly. I remembered during my teacher training at Kripalu in 2002 one of the instructors said a good way to stay present is to hold each pose for a minimum of five slow, deep breaths. I have been practicing this in the past few days and have found it tremendously helpful in keeping me present and in the poses for a longer amount of time. It's easy to say "focus on the breath" but for me that can be too vague and too much to ask. I am however, a pretty good counter. So I just count my five slow breaths, trying to make them as gentle and smooth as possible. And then slowly ease out of the posture. It feels good.

Five things I am grateful for today

1. Yesterday Regina posted about making elderberry syrup. I was so excited by the idea that I went out and bought my own elderberries (which you can find organic at New Life), ginger, cinnamon stick, and cloves. It is cooling on the stove now and smells neat, kinda medicinal. I am planning to slurp up a tablespoon or two of it a day to help me stay well. I guess when you have trouble getting enough rest you look around for some external help staying healthy and avoiding cooties. Thanks for the inspiration Regina!

2. Sande and I went to Ghandi's for lunch. It was great to catch up.

3. Soft fuzzy creamsicle colored sweater

4. Last night I caught up on my favorite blogs. It was so inspiring to read what people have been making, cooking and the adventures they have been having. Loved it.

5. It is 71 degrees today.

In celebration of being thankful

1. A beautiful Thanksgiving with my mom, Eric, his mom (Mary Lou) and sister in-law (Monica). I could make a long list just from last night. Suffice to say I wouldn't change a thing and felt deeply thankful. Oh yeah, Roofrauff was there too, of course.

2. Gentle yoga

3. An hour long walk right before sunset at the Rillito

4. Leftovers

5. A nice chat with my brother today

6. My friends

7. Five days of having my mom here with me--we went for many long walks, ate awesome food, laughed, cooked, goofed off, saw Meadz, went shooting, and just generally enjoyed each other.

8. Eric's patience

9. Sugarplum Spice tea

10. My neighbors and neighborhood

11. Sunshine

12. Cheese

13. Our living room, kitchen and bathroom have several little bouquets of bougainvillea with mesquite fronds that my mom made. They make our house even more lovely.

14. Speaking of our house it is WAY more organized. Before my mom arrived E and I set up the guest room and made a lot of progress at moving in. Yes, we took an eight month break, whatever. It is looking and feeling homier than ever.

15. Last Saturday I bought this for the kitchen and E set it up for me. I am using it as an island of sorts. I love it--five more feet of counter space? Four more drawers? 4.5 feet of lovely bottom shelf action? Are you kidding?

16. And guess who finally planted the tiny garden after talking about it for a few months? Yes, that would be me. Three lettuces, two kinds of spinach, cilantro, parsley, peppermint, spearmint, rosemary, thyme, basil, and sage. Pretty awesome! They are like little pets. I love them.

17. Last night I slept pretty well. In case anyone has experience with insomnia, especially in conjunction with working night shift, please comment on any remedies/medicines/whatever that worked for you. I am getting pretty desperate. I am grateful in advance for your help and for a future time when I sleep well again.

18. Love

19. My family

20. The foods that Mary Lou and Monica brought last night were wonderful! Mary Lou made this amazing pie with a chocolate cookie crust and lots of whipped cream and other goodness. Monica brought a Honeybaked ham, wine and champagne. Delish!

21. A mostly very healthy body

22. Thanksgiving dinner turned out well.

23. Our nice clean house

24. One more day off

25. Big plans for tomorrow: lurk around and relax. Have tea with Sande if she isn't too busy. I hope she moves back here some day.

26. Salad

27. Christmas lights are going up on our street.

28. Hope

29. The heat dish, the space heater doo-dad from Costco

30. We almost always have enough of everything we need and want.

31. My first Thanksgiving without my dad wasn't so hard on my heart as I had feared. And I am feeling less broken than I did a year ago.

32. A high of 65 degrees in the end of November

33. I saw my cards that I made a couple of months ago. They inspired me to creep back into my studio sometime soon and play some more.

Love, love, love, love, love to you all.

A bunch of things I am grateful for today

1. I have been in Oregon for the past few days spending time with my family. The trip was wonderful--so good to be with my mom and our other family members.
2. Spicy tuna rolls at Sushiland
3. My mom made the most awesome delicata squash dessert: she cut the squash in half, put down a thin layer of gingerbread torani syrup, sprinkled it with cinnamon, ginger and cardamom (and maybe another spice?) and then baked it for an hour or so. Once it was done she spooned a scoop of vanilla ice cream on each half. WOW, it was unbelievable.
4. How many people support my mom in Portland
5. Sleeping in the same bed as my mom all weekend and having a 3 night slumber party. I love you Mama, you are so much fun.
6. My flights went well.
7. Eric and Little Roo were excited to get me home. I was so happy to see them too.
8. The holiday season is starting, yippee!
9. Really good salads in Oregon
10. That home still feels like home
11. Mid November sunshine in the 70's in Tucson
12. Love
