Five things I am grateful for today

1. Yesterday a package came in the mail addressed to Clover Spellman. Inside was a leash with awesome flashlight capability. It has multiple settings with a really bright light that points straight ahead, a light that points down and a flashing red light that shines to the back. Eric, Love, thank you for keeping us safe as it gets dark earlier.
2. You wanna talk about a great compliment, remember when my friend Mead took all of those artistic pictures of my work in the end of July? Well recently she was over at my house and had turned a bunch of the photos into a screen saver slideshow for her own computer! How sweet is that? VERY FREAKIN' SWEET.
3. Today when I arrived at a prospective patient's home, her daughter hugged me and said, "I don't know you but I already love you. Thank you for doing what you do and being who you are." Her mother has fairly late stage alzheimers and when I was helping her up from the toilet she held both of my arms and said, "I am already starting to love you." They also gave me an orange soda.
4. I'm about to make a Greek salad with some beautiful tiny tomatoes of many colors from Whole Foods and homegrown mint.
5. Cool evenings and mornings

The Park and Some Grateful

When my friend Wendy saw the tribute to Roofrauff post she mentioned how brown Arizona is. So I took these pictures for her this morning. Clover runs around like a tiny maniac off the leash at this park for a few minutes every morning.

There certainly is a lot to be grateful for and now seems like a very good time to put a little extra effort into counting my blessings.
1. Tomorrow is Eric's birthday. I am so glad he was born. This world is far better for having him in it. Today we have been celebrating as I have the day off and this way he can spend tomorrow with his twin, Jim. (Happy Birthday Jim!) He has been really happy with his presents which of course, I am thrilled about.
2. This morning I woke up lying on my stomach to Clover putting her paws and face on my back so she could sleep there. How cute!
3. I had a lot of fun with Mead this weekend. We did our errands together and worked on crafty gifts.
4. Today Eric and I got foot massages at Heavenly Feet. It was wonderful.
5. Clover and I went for two walks today.
6. A good upbringing
7. Hope
8. My mom is coming to visit in a few weeks!
9. Impending sushi (E's favorite)
10. Having wavy hair
11. Missing my dad is less acutely painful right now
12. The flowers in our yard are beautiful this time of year.
13. Clover's poo is SO small.
14. Oregon

Are you sick of seeing pictures of Clover yet? NEVER! Oh wait, that's just me... I can't get enough of her.

Five things I am grateful for today

1. I adore Clover more every day. She is loving, affectionate, mostly calm, well behaved and really funny.

2. A lovely weekend (despite poor Eric being sick)
3. Clover and I have been going for walks every morning. I am grateful that the mornings are cool now as fall approaches.
4. Tonight we are having Greek salad, matzo ball soup and fruit salad for dinner (yum!)
5. Yesterday I invented a new recipe for a sort of savory Middle Eastern inspired pie. It had spinach, grass fed ground beef, sweet onions, lemon juice, pine nuts, feta cheese, zahtar seasoning, salt all in a pie crust. It turned out really well. I ate some for breakfast today too.

Five things I am grateful for today

1. This morning Clover and I went on my favorite Rillito walk to introduce her to the cottonwoods trees.

2. It has been a very relaxing day so far. A few things have been accomplished with a whole lot of rest.

3. Last night Mead came over to have dinner and meet Clover. We ate tacos and it was lovely.

4. Having Eric home for dinner every night is just wonderful. I love it.

5. Yesterday an older lady hugged me at In N Out. It made my whole day.

Gratitude and our new friend, Clover

1. Today is a wonderful day. It's stormy outside and I have been working from home.
2. Early this morning Clover and I went for a walk on the Rillito.
3. I love Eric's new schedule--he is up with the birds which puts me back on my natural schedule of being a morning person. LOVE IT!
4. Eric loves his new job so far. It makes me so happy that he is enjoying himself and also safer. Hooray!
5. Sadly Peaches and Clover didn't get along so for several days we explored options of how to deal with the situation while trying to keep the two dogs apart. Peaches found a great new home so the chaos in our house has subsided. Eric in particular is missing her but I think we both feel relieved to have our peace and quiet back. Clover seems to be thriving as an only child. Here are some pictures of her:

She is very happy and squirmy when she plays!

We found tiny dog-friendly tennis balls for her to play with. She is starting to catch on. Here she is meditating.

Mostly her pastime of choice is relaxing on the couch.

Five things I am grateful for today

1. We found out today that tomorrow Eric starts his new job! Yippee! Congratulations!

2. Clover is a tiny love. Very sweet, very cute.

3. When my car battery died, we called Kathleen who lives across the street and she came to fetch us at Petsmart. So nice to be friends with our neighbors. I am also grateful that we were only a couple of miles from home.

4. For Eric, thank you for recharging my car battery so I can make it to buy a new one in the morning. Thank you for setting up Clover's crate. Thank you for getting rid of those huge TVs. Thank you for a fun lunch date.

5. To be a nurse

Five (+1) things I am grateful for today

1. Eric and I went on a great little trip to Bisbee from Wednesday to Friday. The weather was perfect--it rained just enough each day to cool things off for us. We explored, ate yummy food and just had an all around great time. We found a little shop called Bliss Bee with really neat art supplies and an awesome owner named Julie. She showed me some of her favorite supplies and how to use them. A definite kindred spirit!
We stayed at a wonderful bed and breakfast called The Gardens at Mile High Ranch. I am hoping we end up going there a lot! Here's a picture of the gate to the gardens:

I forgot how much greener Bisbee is than Tucson. Mmm, plants!

2. Friday night after we got home we went to pick up Peaches. Having her around this weekend has been fun! She is so loving! A good addition to our household indeed.

3. Later this afternoon we are going to meet Clover, the other potential new dog-friend. I'll keep you posted on how that goes!

4. Last night Eric and I went on a date to Ric's Cafe. Right after we arrived a monsoon started, a big one! So we sat and ate our delicious dinner and watched the storm. After dinner the storm was still going strong so we ordered dessert and tea and sat awhile longer. The lightning and thunder were amazing!

5. My mom sent me a really sweet book. I am so lucky to be loved by her! I love you too, Mama.

6. Today is my friend, Rene's bridal shower.

Five (+1) things I am grateful for today

1. My mom

2. E and I made dinner together last night--it's so nice having him around everyday! When he starts his new job we'll eat dinner together all the time! Yippee!

3. After dinner we spontaneously decided to go see a dog named Peaches who is looking for a home.

She is very calm and when you pet her all she wants to do is put her head against your chest. She's two years old, doesn't really bark, is house trained and has a great smile. Eric has already fallen for her hook, line and sinker. Even though going to see her was my idea, I am a little more hesitant. I guess I just want my Roofrauff back. E and I both feel a terrible hole in our lives not having a dog to love. So we are going to think for a few days about whether we are going to adopt Peaches or not.

We are also thinking about going to see this little one on Sunday.

4. Toast with butter and nutritional yeast

5. My work friends are so supportive and kind.

6. I am so grateful for my health. I guess this comes up a lot because of my job--I am constantly reminded that living without chronic pain or other symptoms is a wonderful gift.

Five things I am grateful for today

1. Yesterday Mead and I went to our favorite yoga class. Our teacher, Laura just seems to gets funnier and more awesome all the time. After yoga we came back to my house and I made us quesadillas with green chiles, corn cut off the cob and leftover bbq grilled chicken in them. We also ate green papaya salad over spinach, watermelon and dark chocolate, and drank iced tea.

2. This morning was overcast and cool outside so I decided to go for a walk. I had no sooner left the house when my neighbor, Kathleen pulled up next to me and told me she and Frankie (her dog) were going to the Rillito for a walk. They invited me along--I hadn't been to the Rillito in what felt like the longest time. The sky sprinkled raindrops on us and it was perfect (except for the lack of Roofrauff, obviously.)

3. After the walk I decided it was time to pull the summer garden and start preparing for fall. It felt so nice to be outside without the heat. I pulled the dead and dying plants and then a ton of weeds.

4. Eric and I are relaxing around the house. Yesterday we cleaned it so it feels particularly good around here. Maybe we'll just hang out and read for awhile.

5. It's still overcast out. It's supposed to rain/monsoon. I hope so!

Yeehaw!

We went on an adventure to Tombstone, Arizona yesterday and had a great time. They're having a three day festival with reenactments of the gun fight at the O.K. Corral. We watched one reenactment, walked around the town, tried on hats, drank sarsaparilla and enjoyed people watching. There were dozens of people dressed up in the garb of the Old West, we even saw a dog dressed up a prostitute, trying to earn money for the local animal rescue.

Eric enjoyed reading lots of plaques, one of his favorite pastimes. Being around him is so fun because he has a great memory for historical facts and when he repeats them it's always in the form of an interesting story.

Yep, it was one heck of day.

Five things I am grateful for today

1. Eric made us a great dinner. I sure do like it when he is on vacation!
2. I got to work from home for part of the day.
3. Being healthy and happy
4. Labor day weekend
5. It's September and that means the heat will end someday soon.

One week since my Pickleypickley Rooraa left this world. It feels like a lot longer than that to me. I miss his beautiful furry little creature self.

Five things I am grateful for today

1. Govinda's restaurant has finally switched to reusable plates! After writing a dozen or so comment cards letting them know the only thing missing from this awesome place was a gentler impact on the environment I was starting to wonder if they ever would switch, but they finally listened! Yippee!

2. Mead and I had a spontaneous date tonight! We had dinner at Govinda's, which was healthy and delicious as it always is (tonight was vegan night, extra yum.) Then we went to Home Depot so she could get a key made, and then next door to Target. We had a super time, of course! She makes me laugh so hard. We figured out that the way to judge if clothing looks good on the other person is by what kind of enthusiastic dance they perform while trying the piece on. The better the dance, the higher the rating. In other words, if you like it enough that it inspires a dance, you probably should bring it home.

3. Mead has made her Facebook profile picture a pic of Roofrauff with her dog Loosey twice in a row. I find this really comforting and supportive. Thank you, Meadz.

4. Eric is driving home from work right now to enjoy ten days off from work! All he does is work his tail off and then in his free time, help his family, so I am so glad he is taking some time to relax! So looking forward to some quality chillin'!

5. Technically, it's Friday.
